Family Portrait Session | Glenview, IL | Chicago-area Photographer

It was a mild and overcast morning the day of the Z family’s session; an absolute perfect day for photos! We met at The Grove in Glenview and they were just cleaning up from a wedding the night before. What a gorgeous location for an outdoor wedding (in case you’re looking!), I highly recommend it.

Kurt & Christy are really laid back, so everything was easy peasy. Little Hannah wasn’t too sure about having her pictures taken, but once we started incorporating her little giraffe lovie, she was all smiles! I highly recommend bringing comfort items from home if you think your little one might be a little stand-offish, they don’t have to be in every photo and it really makes a big difference in their overall demeanor.

One of the best parts about starting this business is getting to reconnect with old friends! It was good to see Jim (an old high school and college friend) and meet his beautiful family. It was wonderful to see the unique bond each child had with their parents, and one another. These kiddos were so fun to work with and I got to learn a lot about Star Wars and ninja training!

It got pretty hot and humid as the evening went on, but they were great sports about it and I think the kids liked the little surprises I gave them when we wrapped up. I hope to see this family again soon!

Even though it was hot and muggy, it was so much fun photographing the W Family last weekend. I’ve known Becky & Alex for almost 14 years, so it helped calmed the jitters that came with my first “real” shoot.

Little Elle took awhile to warm up, but putting her in charge of wagon pulling and bubble blowing helped do the trick! Baby Hunter is just about to crawl, so it was the perfect time to get some photos of him while he is still somewhat… still. He did great and I think their photos turned out beautifully.

I am always on the hunt for new session locations! I want to be able to offer a wide variety of “natural backdrops” for my clients, all in one destination, within a short drive of where they live.

Last week, I took my assistant/model (aka, Cole/CJ) out with me again on a warm, sunny morning. I have to say, he’s very accommodating for the most part… so long as I have a pocket-full of Smarties. But once the candy runs out, it’s every man for himself!

This trip, I focused primarily on the Southwest suburbs of Chicago– specifically Fullersburg Woods in Oakbrook and Barth Pond in Downers Grove. I was actually very familiar with Patriots Park at Barth Pond, having played there many times growing up. But they recently renovated the playground and the surrounding grounds and I have to say, it really looks wonderful. I am looking forward to getting stunning portraits there this summer!

Fullersburg Woods came recommended to me, and I had never been there before. But it was another beautiful, and very peaceful, location. CJ really enjoyed the nature center there; playing puzzles and learning all about the animals living nearby. It was tough to get him out of the tree house to get some photos of him.

If you live near Oakbrook or Downers Grove and would like to book a session at either of these locations, please call me at (773)531-5704 or email heatherton@gmail.com and I’d be happy to discuss dates and times with you. And even if you don’t book a session with me, I highly encourage you visit them on your own one day. You won’t be disappointed!

My two beautiful nephews were born just 6 weeks apart, and while I enjoyed all their early baby days, I have certainly been looking forward to this time right now! They are so curious and mobile, I just love to see them interact with one another.

I couldn’t help myself when I saw these adorable (matching) outfits at Carter’s. I knew right then I wanted to photograph them together wearing them in an old red wagon… and that’s exactly what I did. This was a great time to capture all their 1st birthday portraits as well, and even get some shots with their big sisters. The only thing missing that day were my own 2 boys. Maybe next year!
